I just stumbled on this blog because I’m a seminarian who also likes Ubuntu. I don’t know if you have the resources you need yet, but I also wrote a paper on this pericope recently and I feel obligated to throw in my two cents. I found a book by Robert Letellier called “Day in Mamre, Night in Sodom,” very helpful, in addition to the commentaries mentioned above. I’d also recommend an article by Nathan MacDonald in Catholic Biblical Quarterly 66 no 1 Ja 2004, p 25-43. I basically agree with his interpretation.
